Having an overdue library book can affect your credit score. What does having a late library book have to do with the likeliness of your ability to pay your bills on time?
But what I want to know is, how did the credit agencies find out that you had an overdue book? What are the library systems doing, reporting that to them anyway? Those public institutions need some monitoring about sharing commercially relevant information.
If you have a library fine that goes into the "collection" phase, (for more than one book, I would hope!) then, of course, that info would be picked up by the credit agencies. Please see: http://www.kiplinger.com/magazine /archives/2006/03/credit.html
